NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — A day after Groupon offered $20 off of $40 worth of flowers and gifts from FTD, users are calling the deal a scam.
The coupon, which nearly 3,300 people bought, directed buyers to a special FTD website — FTD.com/groupon — to take advantage of the offer. The problem, users said, was that prices were higher than on the regular website, effectively diminishing the value of the deal.
In fact, it appeared that a Valentine’s Day bouquet would cost more if users redeemed their Groupon.
“What a scam. The ftd groupon site has a price $10-$20 more than their own site. So basically you didn’t save anything,” Joann L. wrote in the comments section of Groupon’s site

SAN FRANCISCO — Ning, the star-studded yet struggling social-networking company co-founded and bankrolled by Netscape Communications co-founder Marc Andreessen, is back with a vengeance.
Today, it launched a new mobile application that it paired with an encouraging progress report on the radical business plan it instituted several months ago to reverse its flagging fortunes.
Mogwee, a free new mobile app from Ning, combines social-communication services: one-on-one and group chat; photo sharing; access to information about restaurants, movies, YouTube and games; and the ability to send virtual gifts, such as zombie sheep.
It is initially available on iPhones, iPads, Android-supported devices and phones with mobile Web access. A BlackBerry version is in the works and expected soon.
A new report from agency GroupM and comScore details the degree to which search and social media have become intertwined in the purchase path that consumers take across the Internet. The report is a follow-up to a similar study done in 2009.
GroupM and comScore looked at consumer behavior associated with purchase decisions in the electronics/telecommunications and consumer packaged goods categories. They found that while search dominates social media among consumers making buying decisions — nearly 60 percent of cases that end in a purchase begin with search – social media play an increasingly important role during consideration and especially after a purchase is made.
The report found that “40 percent of consumers who use search in their path to purchase are motivated to use social media to further their decision making process.”
Since the NY Times’ story broke this past weekend, much has been made of JC Penny’s recent “success” at gaming Google. In case you’re not familiar with the case, here’s what happened:
For roughly 4 months JC Penny was the top Google organic search result for everything from “dresses” to “area rugs” to “samsonite carry on luggage”. How? JC Penny’s search consulting firm,SearchDex, used black hat methods that included placing a huge number of paid links on shady sites, which sent clickers to JC Penny’s home page. While these links used anchor text relevant to Google search terms (e.g. black dresses), they were placed on completely irrelevant sites (e.g. nuclear.engineeringaddict.com) and clicked on either by SearchDex users or, more likely, a bot they created. This operation yielded phenomenal short-term results but has now incurred the full wrath of Google; JC Penny’s search results are now subject to “corrective” action.

In the first months, an estimated 80% of new movers will likely try new products and services from local suppliers. As they reinvent themselves, new residents may do anything from getting a new hairstyle to redecorating their new home.
According to a recent survey, 42% of people even change their brand of toothpaste after they move! During that time, new residents spend four to six times as much as non-movers, on everything from carpet to take-out meals. In fact, the US Postal Service says the average consumer spends $7,100 on relocation-related goods in the weeks following a move, calling this a “hyper-spend period”. Much of this torrent of hyper-spending flows to local retailers that the new mover is trying for the very first time.

Your curtains or rugs no longer fit… You need a wide variety of goods and services for your new location… a new barber, auto mechanic, grocery store, hairdresser, dentist, optician, bank—you name it. It’s time to take advantage of this opportunity.
1) “Time-Spent” Keyword Research
The main objective of good SEO is quality keyword research. Remember to have patience when researching and implementing ideas. Take the necessary time needed for each given task.
Finding the right keywords may take a lot of time and patience. Use tools to help you find out which keywords are the best.
Google Adwords Keyword Tool or Google Insight and Google Suggestions are good examples of some of the tools you can use to find the right keywords for your niche.
An idea to sort out keywords is to download them into an excel sheet. Remember that the keywords should match the content and products of your website. Sort the keywords by the number of daily searches, or monthly, or yearly.
